The lights all found homes in Sierra Leone, and will operate for the next 2000 or so hours on solar energy to promote the culture of reading! Here is the last bit of correspondence from far away. The final dimensions have been set in stone, er ink from a printer. Yes, the installation will be complete with a laser line torque tube, bonanza zone, and point of serendipity. Ah yes, all it will take is hours of mindless repetitive labor! Whaoo!!!

This will enable the solar powered flashlights to shine their brightest, and hopefully for the flutter to generate some sound, ie quiet whispers in the wind.

The latest idea is to plot the installation radially, instead of perpendicular to a base line. A radially arranged Flutter Tunnel will pinch off the ends of the tunnel, which should create some wacky overlapping hoops from a distance.

A nifty economic figure is for every dollar donated, $116 in savings are created.

Here is how this works:

Flutter Tunnel will send 200 BoGo lights to people who will utilize them thoroughly.

The 200 BoGo lights will create $466,666 in savings from not buying 199,800 C batteries ($2,331 x 200 and 999 C batteries x 200).

$466,666/ $4000 (our fundraising goal to buy 200 BoGo Lights) = $116.66

$116 represents the savings created for every dollar contributed to Flutter Tunnel.
]]><![CDATA[1/10 Flutter Tunnel Test]]>Tue, 14 Jul 2009 14:52:35 -0800http://www.fluttertunnel.com/2/post/2009/07/110-flutter-tunnel-test.htmlOver the 4th of July weekend, Flutter Tunnel group members created a test installation measuring 100 feet long on the Center for the Arts lawn. The 10 arches were equipped with the first shippment of SunNight Solar flashlights to test height, intensity and duration of various lighting modes. The results were spectacular, and even drew in a fair crowd during the 4th of July fireworks.

We also tested a couple different methods of utilizing sequin scrap to further illuminate the installation. The glittery material is highly visible at night and during the day when light reflects off the facets.

Flutter Tunnel has taken an innovative approach to fundraising. Crew members have developed a product from upcycled sequin waste, to create sequin streamers.

To date, the shiny amenities for bikes, hair and car antennaes have been distributed to raise $400. The sequin streamers reduce waste entering landfills, while also supporting innovative approaches to creating artwork.
